Abstract

In the 21st century, higher education must produce graduates who not only possess knowledge but also exhibit high motivation for learning and the ability to think adaptively. Outcome-Based Education (OBE) is a pedagogical approach that prioritizes learning outcomes as indicators of success; however, its efficacy in enhancing student learning motivation requires empirical validation. This study seeks to examine the impact of the OBE learning approach on student motivation. The research employed an interdisciplinary methodology. Quantitative with a correlational causal-comparative design. The study population consisted of students enrolled in the Mathematics Education program at a university. There are 210 students in Pendidikan Matematika FMIPA UNM, and 138 of them were chosen using the technique of proportional stratified random selection. We used a Likert scale questionnaire to collect data on how well OBE is being used and how motivated students are to study. Then, we used SPSS software to analyze the data using simple linear regression and Pearson correlation. The research findings indicate a favorable correlation and considerable influence between the implementation of OBE and student learning motivation, with a more pronounced effect on intrinsic motivation than on extrinsic incentive. These findings validate that the use of OBE can enhance student engagement and motivation to study when structured in a participative and outcome-focused way. The findings of this study offer practical recommendations for universities to enhance the implementation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) through contextual and student-centered learning. Additionally, they contribute theoretically to the reinforcement of the integrative model linking OBE theory with contemporary learning motivation theory.
