All manuscripts must align with the journal's Focus and Scope and demonstrate a clear contribution to knowledge in mathematics education.
Authorship Criteria
Authorship is reserved for individuals who have made substantial scholarly contributions to the work. Each author must meet the following criteria:
- Make a substantial contribution to the conception, design, implementation, data collection, analysis, interpretation, or development of the research.
- Participate in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.
- Approve the final version of the manuscript submitted for publication.
- Accept responsibility for their contribution and cooperate in resolving questions concerning the accuracy or integrity of the work.
The corresponding author is responsible for coordinating communication with the editor, confirming that all authors approve the submitted manuscript, and ensuring that the authorship order and affiliations have been agreed upon by all authors. Individuals who have contributed to the work but do not meet the authorship criteria may be acknowledged in the acknowledgments section, with their permission. Any changes to the authorship or author order after submission must be justified, agreed upon by the relevant authors, and approved by the editor.
Manuscript Preparation and Formatting
Manuscripts must be prepared in Microsoft Word using the official EQUALS journal template available through the Journal Template menu. Technical requirements regarding paper size, margins, font type and size, line spacing, page numbering, tables, figures, and manuscript layout must follow the official journal template.
Authors are responsible for checking the readability of the manuscript, consistency of terminology, language accuracy, and completeness of all required components before submission.
Title and Author Information
The article title must be written in Indonesian, use Title Case, and follow the title-length and formatting requirements specified in the journal template. All author names must be written in full without academic titles or abbreviations. Each author's program or department, faculty, university or institution, and email address must be clearly provided. The corresponding author must be clearly identified, together with an active email address. All authors must approve the manuscript and the authorship order before submission.
Abstract and Keywords
Each article must include an abstract in Indonesian and English. Each abstract must be written as a single paragraph of no more than 200 words. The abstract should concisely describe the research or review objectives, the methods or approach used, the principal findings or results, and the relevant conclusions.
Each abstract must be accompanied by 3–5 keywords that represent the main concepts of the article and are relevant to mathematics education. Abstract and keyword formatting must follow the official journal template.
Manuscript Structure
The manuscript structure must be appropriate to the type of article.
A. Original Research Article
An original research article generally includes:
- Title.
- Author names and affiliations.
- Abstract and keywords.
- Introduction.
- Research methods.
- Results and discussion.
- Conclusion.
- Acknowledgments, if applicable.
- References.
Results and discussion may be presented together or separately, depending on the requirements of the journal template and the needs of the study.
B. Review Article
A review article includes the title, author information, abstract, keywords, introduction, review methodology or approach where relevant, synthesis and discussion of the literature, conclusion, and references. A review article must provide critical analysis and synthesis rather than merely summarizing sources individually.
C. Conceptual or Theoretical Article
A conceptual or theoretical article includes the title, author information, abstract, keywords, introduction, conceptual or theoretical framework, analysis and discussion, conclusion, and references. The structure should be adapted to the nature of the manuscript and the journal template.
Tables, Figures, and Illustrations
Tables, figures, graphs, and illustrations must be relevant to the discussion, clearly numbered and titled, and cited in the text. Figures must have sufficient quality and resolution to ensure readability. Authors are responsible for ensuring that materials reproduced from other sources have the necessary permissions and appropriate attribution.
The placement and formatting of tables and figures must follow the official journal template. Authors must also disclose the use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies for generating or substantially modifying images, illustrations, or other visual materials, in accordance with the journal's policy on the Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies.
Citations and References
EQUALS uses the APA 7th Edition referencing style. Authors are encouraged to use reference management software, such as Mendeley, to maintain consistency in citations and references. Every source cited in the text must be included in the reference list, and each reference-list entry must be cited in the text, except where a specific provision of the referencing style states otherwise.
The reference list must be arranged alphabetically by author surname and follow APA 7th Edition requirements, including author names, publication year, title, source information, and DOI or URL where applicable. Original research articles are encouraged to include at least eight relevant references. Recent scholarly sources, particularly those published within the last ten years, are preferred. However, classic or foundational works may be cited when necessary to support the theoretical framework or scholarly argument.
The number of references must be appropriate to the substance of the manuscript. Review articles may require more references depending on their scope and review methodology. Authors must verify that all citations and references are accurate and traceable. AI-generated references must not be included unless their existence and bibliographic details have been independently verified against reliable sources.
Originality and Author Responsibilities
Authors are responsible for the originality of their manuscripts, the accuracy of their data, the correctness of their citations, and compliance with scholarly publication ethics. Plagiarism, fabrication or falsification of data, duplicate publication, and other forms of research misconduct are unacceptable. Submission confirms that all authors have approved the manuscript and that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
Authors must disclose relevant conflicts of interest and provide funding information or research ethics approval where required by the nature of the study. Authors are expected to read the journal's Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement and Plagiarism Policy before submitting a manuscript.
Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies
EQUALS: Jurnal Ilmiah Pendidikan Matematika recognizes that generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies may be used to support scholarly research and manuscript preparation. Such technologies must be used responsibly and transparently and must not replace the authors' scholarly judgment, critical thinking, or responsibility for the work.
Disclosure of AI Use
Authors must include a declaration of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in every submitted manuscript. The declaration must accurately state whether AI tools were used in the research or manuscript preparation.
Authors must disclose the use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies when these tools are used to generate or substantially revise manuscript content, develop scholarly arguments, synthesize literature, analyze or interpret research data, generate or substantially modify images, or perform other substantive tasks related to the research or manuscript.
Routine spelling, grammar, and punctuation checks that do not generate or substantially rewrite content do not require a separate declaration under this policy.
When disclosure is required, authors must provide the following information:
- The name of the AI tool and its version or model, where available.
- The purpose for which the tool was used.
- A brief description of how the tool contributed to the research or manuscript.
The declaration should be included in a separate section titled Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies, placed before the References section. When AI tools are used as part of the research methodology, data analysis, or image generation, their use must also be explained in the relevant section of the manuscript.
Author Responsibility
Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and scholarly quality of their manuscripts, including any content generated or assisted by AI tools. Authors must carefully review AI-generated outputs, verify factual claims and references against reliable original sources, and correct any errors, misleading statements, fabricated references, or unsupported conclusions.
AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the manuscript or fulfill the obligations of authorship. Authorship remains subject to the journal's Authorship Criteria.
The use of AI tools must not violate research ethics, confidentiality, copyright, data protection, or other applicable legal and ethical requirements. Authors must not upload confidential information, identifiable participant data, unpublished manuscripts belonging to others, or other restricted materials to AI services without appropriate authorization and safeguards.
Failure to disclose substantive AI use, or the use of AI in ways that compromise research integrity, may be treated as a violation of the journal's Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement.
Declaration Examples
If generative AI or AI-assisted technologies were used, authors may use the following format:
Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies: During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [name of tool and version/model] for [specific purpose]. The authors reviewed and revised the relevant outputs and take full responsibility for the content of the published article.
If no generative AI or AI-assisted technologies requiring disclosure were used, authors may state:
Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies: The authors declare that no generative AI or AI-assisted technologies requiring disclosure under the journal's policy were used in the preparation of this manuscript.
The declaration must accurately reflect the actual use of AI tools in the research and manuscript preparation.
