CONFLICT OF INTEREST POLICY
- General Policy
EMIK: Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmu-Ilmu Sosial is committed to maintaining transparency, fairness, objectivity, and integrity throughout the scholarly publishing process. Authors, editors, reviewers, and other parties involved in publication must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest that could influence their research, judgment, or editorial decisions.
A conflict of interest does not necessarily indicate misconduct. However, undisclosed conflicts may compromise the credibility and integrity of scholarly publication.
- Authors' Responsibilities
Authors must disclose any financial or non-financial interests that could reasonably be perceived as influencing their research, analysis, interpretation, or manuscript preparation.
Such interests may include:
- Research funding, grants, sponsorships, or financial support.
- Employment, consultancy, honoraria, or other financial relationships.
- Personal, professional, or institutional relationships that may affect impartiality.
- Intellectual property interests or other competing academic interests relevant to the manuscript.
Authors must include a conflict of interest statement in their manuscripts. If no conflicts exist, authors may use the following declaration:
“The authors declare that they have no known competing financial or non-financial interests that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this manuscript.”
- Editors' Responsibilities
Editors must evaluate manuscripts objectively and independently, based on their scholarly quality, originality, relevance to the journal's scope, and compliance with publication ethics.
Editors must disclose any conflict of interest and refrain from handling manuscripts when their impartiality could reasonably be questioned. This includes manuscripts authored by themselves or by individuals with whom they have close personal, professional, or collaborative relationships.
In such cases, the manuscript must be assigned to another qualified editor who can manage the editorial process independently.
- Reviewers' Responsibilities
Reviewers must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest before accepting a review assignment.
Reviewers should decline an assignment if personal relationships, recent collaborations, professional competition, financial interests, or other circumstances could compromise their ability to provide an impartial assessment.
Reviewers must maintain confidentiality and must not use unpublished information obtained during peer review for personal or professional advantage.
- Funding Disclosure
Authors must acknowledge all sources of financial support for their research and manuscript preparation. Where applicable, they must describe the funder's role in research design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, manuscript preparation, and the decision to publish.
If the research received no specific funding, authors may use the following statement:
“This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.”
- Disclosure and Management
All relevant conflicts of interest must be disclosed to the editorial team as early as possible. The Editor-in-Chief or a designated editor will assess each disclosure and determine appropriate measures to protect the integrity of the editorial process.
Depending on the circumstances, these measures may include reassignment of an editor or reviewer, additional independent review, requests for clarification, or disclosure of the conflict in the published article.
The existence of a conflict of interest does not automatically result in manuscript rejection if the conflict can be appropriately managed.
- Failure to Disclose
Failure to disclose a relevant conflict of interest may lead to further investigation and appropriate editorial action. Depending on the seriousness of the case and whether the article has been published, actions may include manuscript rejection, publication of a correction, an expression of concern, or retraction.
All cases will be handled fairly, confidentially, and in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies.
- Application of the Policy
This policy applies to all manuscripts submitted to EMIK: Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmu-Ilmu Sosial and to all individuals involved in the journal's editorial and publication processes.
