Plagiarism Policy

1. Commitment to Originality

EMIK: Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmu-Ilmu Sosial is committed to maintaining academic integrity, originality, and ethical standards in scholarly publishing. All manuscripts submitted to the journal must represent original scholarly work and must appropriately acknowledge the ideas, words, data, and findings of other authors.

Plagiarism and other forms of publication misconduct are unacceptable and will be handled in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies.

2. Forms of Plagiarism

Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  1. Direct plagiarism: Reproducing text from another source without proper quotation and acknowledgment.

  2. Mosaic plagiarism: Combining phrases or passages from one or more sources without adequate attribution.

  3. Paraphrasing plagiarism: Presenting another author's ideas, arguments, or findings in different words without appropriate citation.

  4. Data and idea plagiarism: Using another person's research ideas, data, tables, figures, or other intellectual contributions without proper acknowledgment or permission where required.

  5. Self-plagiarism and redundant publication: Reusing substantial portions of previously published work without appropriate acknowledgment or disclosure, or submitting substantially overlapping manuscripts for consideration by multiple journals.

3. Similarity Screening

EMIK Journal may screen submitted manuscripts using plagiarism-detection software or other appropriate methods. Screening may be conducted during the initial editorial assessment and at other stages of the publication process when necessary.

Similarity reports are used as supporting evidence for editorial evaluation. A similarity score alone does not establish plagiarism. Editors will assess the nature, context, sources, and extent of textual overlap, taking into account properly cited quotations, references, standard terminology, and other legitimate similarities.

4. Editorial Assessment

Each manuscript will be assessed individually. Where inappropriate similarity or suspected plagiarism is identified, the editorial team may request an explanation, ask the authors to revise the manuscript, suspend the review process while the concern is investigated, or reject the submission, depending on the circumstances.

The journal does not rely solely on a fixed similarity percentage to determine whether plagiarism has occurred. Editorial decisions are based on the available evidence and the seriousness of the suspected violation.

5. Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to EMIK Journal are required to:

  • Ensure that their manuscripts are original and properly acknowledge all sources.

  • Cite sources accurately and provide complete references.

  • Use quotation marks and appropriate citations when reproducing text verbatim.

  • Obtain permission to reproduce copyrighted material when required.

  • Disclose substantial overlap with their own previously published work.

  • Ensure that the manuscript is not simultaneously under consideration by another journal.

  • Cooperate with the editorial team in clarifying any concerns regarding originality or attribution.

All authors are responsible for the originality and integrity of their submitted manuscripts.

6. Actions in Cases of Plagiarism

If plagiarism is suspected before publication, EMIK Journal may suspend the editorial process while the matter is assessed. Depending on the findings, the journal may request clarification, require revision, or reject the manuscript.

If plagiarism is confirmed after publication, the journal will evaluate the case and may issue a correction, publish an expression of concern, or retract the article when warranted. The journal may also contact relevant institutions or other parties when appropriate and consistent with applicable ethical procedures.

Authors will be given a reasonable opportunity to respond to allegations before a final decision is made, where circumstances permit.

7. Responsibilities of Editors

The editorial team is responsible for handling suspected plagiarism fairly, consistently, and confidentially. All allegations will be assessed based on available evidence, the context of the case, and the principles of publication ethics.

Editorial decisions concerning suspected plagiarism will be made independently and without discrimination or conflicts of interest.

8. Policy Application

This policy applies to all manuscripts submitted to EMIK: Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmu-Ilmu Sosial. By submitting a manuscript, authors acknowledge their responsibility to comply with this policy and with the journal's broader publication ethics requirements.
