Abstract

This community service activity aimed to improve new PIK-R members' initial understanding of peer counselor roles, role boundaries, basic communication skills, and PIK-R functions as an initial support space at school. The activity was conducted on November 20, 2025, in the SMKN 3 Makassar meeting room, involving 28 student participants who were new PIK-R members. The method used participatory training through interactive lectures, discussion, question-and-answer sessions, and simple game-based learning in the form of writing hopes and aspirations. Evaluation was conducted descriptively through non-standardized observation, question-and-answer responses, and oral reflection at the end of the session, focusing on participation, conceptual understanding, and participant responses. The results showed that all 28 participants completed the session; participation was indicated by their willingness to answer questions, respond to simple cases, and share outputs from the activity. During the question-and-answer session, participants were able to restate the role of peer counselors as helping friends, the function of PIK-R as a space for information and support, and several basic skills, including listening, empathy, asking questions, and maintaining confidentiality. Participants' reflections also indicated initial awareness that peer counselors are not responsible for solving all problems, but for helping peers seek appropriate support. The main contribution of this activity is that it provides an initial foundation for new PIK-R members to understand the roles, boundaries, and peer support flow at school. Because this activity was limited to initial training without a pretest-posttest, further practice, supervision by guidance and counseling teachers, and gradual evaluation are needed.
