Abstract

The family plays an important role in shaping early childhood character through parenting patterns, habituation of positive behaviors, and a supportive environment for child development. However, there is still a need to strengthen parents’ capacity in understanding effective parenting strategies to build children’s excellent character from an early age. This community service activity aimed to strengthen parents’ capacity through Smart Parenting training at TK Islam Madawara. The activity was implemented using a participatory approach through material delivery, discussions, experience sharing, and parenting reflections. Evaluation was conducted through observations of participant involvement, reflections on discussion outcomes, and participant feedback. The results showed that participants actively engaged in the training and experienced increased understanding of character formation through positive behavior habituation, parental role modeling, positive family communication, and the implementation of adaptive parenting practices. The activity also increased parents’ awareness of the importance of family involvement as the first educational environment in character development. Smart Parenting training had a positive impact on strengthening parents’ capacity to support the development of children’s excellent character through collaboration between families and schools.
