Abstract

The improper use of electrical energy among elementary school students has become an issue that requires early attention. Low awareness regarding energy-saving behavior and safe electricity use may lead to energy waste and increase the risk of electrical hazards. This community service program aimed to strengthen students’ scientific literacy through electrical energy-saving education for the Alpha Generation at SD Negeri Baraya 1 Makassar City. The activity was conducted on April 27, 2026, involving 35 fifth-grade students consisting of 20 female students and 15 male students. The program was implemented using interactive lectures, question-and-answer sessions, discussions, and visual media based on scientific literacy referring to the PISA 2025 domains, namely scientific competence, scientific knowledge, environmental science, and scientific identity. The evaluation was carried out through pre-test and post-test assessments as well as observations during the activity. The results showed an increase in students’ average scores on several aspects, including knowledge of electrical energy saving from 56 to 88, knowledge of safe electricity use from 52 to 86, habits of turning off electrical appliances when not in use from 58 to 87, habits of using electricity safely from 60 to 89, and awareness of the relationship between electricity use and the environment from 50 to 84. In addition, student participation during the activity reached 94%, while student enthusiasm reached 97%. This program contributed to improving students’ scientific literacy regarding the efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly use of electrical energy and supported the development of sustainable behavior among Alpha Generation students in elementary schools.
